New IP Address Block for MWireless - Spring/Summer 2017

Due to the continued growth of Wi-Fi across U-M, ITS is adding a new block of IP address space ( to the MWireless network. The addition of new IP address space will help ensure the availability of MWireless across campus as use of WiFi continues to grow.

The targeted timeline for introducing this new address space is Spring/early Summer 2017. Further information on this change can be found at the ITS Network Addresses website.

School of Information North Electrical Outage - Wednesday, March 1

On Wednesday, March 1 from 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., the School of Information North building will suffer hour-long electrical outages while maintenance is performed. Network connectivity may also be lost during this time. Further information on this maintenance is available on the ITS Service Status page.

Pierpont Commons, Duderstadt Center, & NA&ME Network Upgrades - March 1 to March 3

The following network hardware upgrades will take place from Wednesday, March 1 to Friday, March 3:

  • 3/1/17 from 6:00 to 9:00 a.m.: Pierpont Commons CAEN Lab network switch upgrade
  • 3/2/17 from 6:00 to 8:00 a.m.: Duderstadt Center building uplinks upgraded to two 20gig connections
  • 3/3/17 from 6:00 to 9:00 a.m.: NA&ME Computational Lab room 224 network switch upgrade

Network connectivity may be unavailable in these areas during the upgrade process.

CLSE Server Maintenance - Thursday, March 16

On Thursday, March 16 between 5:00 and 8:30 a.m., maintenance has been scheduled for servers that support the CAEN Lab Software Environment (CLSE). This maintenance is intended to apply security patches, correcting recent operating system and software application vulnerabilities.

The following services may experience an outage during the above maintenance timeframe:

  • Linux Login Service (accessed as,,, or, also known as the "VNC" servers
  • Software applications available on CLSE for Windows computers, including via the Windows Remote Desktop Service

GFL 224 Lab Closed - Monday, February 27 to Friday, March 3

The CAEN computer lab in GFL 224 will be closed for maintenance from Monday, February 27 at 8:00 a.m. until Friday, March 3 at 4:00 p.m.

Windows Remote Desktop Service - Saturday, February 25 to Monday, February 27

On Saturday, February 25 starting at 11:00 p.m., ITS will be performing maintenance on the virtual servers that support CAEN's Windows Remote Desktop service. The maintenance is expected to be completed by Monday, February 27 at 5:00 p.m. During this window, remote connections to "CAEN Labs" hosts via will be unavailable.
