On Thursday, January 16th between 6:30 and 8:30 a.m., a maintenance window
has been scheduled for various CAEN servers.  This maintenance window is
primarily intended for the application of security patches that Microsoft
is expected to release during the same week.  The patches correct serious
operating system and application software vulnerabilities that could lead
to computers being compromised.  Other maintenance, including maintenance
on Linux systems may also be performed during the window.  These efforts
may interrupt some services that CAEN provides. The interruptions will
typically last less than 15 minutes, but could last longer.  The following
services may be affected:

  •  Linux login servers (accessed as login.engin.umich.edu, vnc-oncampus.engin.umich.edu, or vnc-twofactor.engin.umich.edu and also known as VNC servers).
  • Some applications on CAEN-supported Windows lab and research computers.

In the event that maintenance is not required on this day, this outage
will be canceled with as much advance notice as is possible.
