Izzy for Mac Platform as a Service
Izzy for Mac Platform as a Service (Izzy for short) is a web-based platform that allows departmental IT units to access and configure the Mac systems that are enrolled in their organization.
CAEN will cover the cost of enrolling up to 50 devices (allotted per each College of Engineering department) in Izzy for Mac Platform as a Service. After the first 50 devices, departments will be billed annually to the provided department shortcode.
To enroll your department’s devices in Izzy or learn more about service options and fees, contact [email protected].
How it Works
The Izzy Team at ITS administers the Izzy platform and enrolls (manages) Mac systems for units within the platform. Your departmental IT support staff is responsible for deploying and maintaining the managed Mac systems within your unit. Some of the departmental support staff responsibilities include:
- Reviewing the Izzy Team’s problem reports
- Reporting lost or stolen systems
- Sending managed Macs to Property Disposition
- Resolving issues with devices that are no longer communicating with Izzy’s MDM server
Reporting Lost or Stolen Systems
In the event that a Mac is lost/stolen, contact the Izzy Team at [email protected]. Provide the device’s serial number, and state that you wish to have the device marked as lost/stolen. The Izzy Team will assign the device to a group in Apple School Manager that will halt billing. Be sure to reach out again if/when it is found so that it can go back to being managed.
Sending Managed Macs to Property Disposition
If a Mac system is going to Property Disposition, departmental IT only needs to remove the device from their organization within Izzy. Property Disposition will contact the Izzy Team once the system is sold to request that it be removed from Apple School Manager.
Managing Inactive Devices
Each Mac system managed by your organization is listed on the Izzy Dashboard, and has three columns (with colored icons) to the left of the system name. (See screenshot below for example.)
To identify and repair problem devices:
- Locate any yellow or red icons displayed in the first or second column next to a device.
- Follow the applicable repair action listed below, depending on the issue.
- Yellow or red in the first column
- Issue: The device is running an OS that is getting close to not being supported or is no longer supported by Izzy.
- Corrective Action: Contact the end-user and update macOS to current version
- Yellow or red in the second column
- Issue: The device has not checked-in in a while.
- Corrective Action Options:
- If the first column is red, update macOS to the current version.
- If the first column is green or yellow, connect the device to the internet so that it can check-in with Izzy.
- Corrective Action Options:
- Issue: The device has not checked-in in a while.
If you are unable to locate the device, contact the assigned user. If the device cannot be located, follow steps above to have the device marked as lost/stolen.
Note: The CAEN-DS Izzy Managers will review enrolled systems and remove those that have been inactive for more than 180 days.
