Resolved: Faculty & Staff Storage Server Migration – Friday, May 31

  • Start: Friday, May 31, 10:45 p.m.
  • End: Friday, May 31, 11:30 p.m.

This migration was originally scheduled to occur on Friday, May 10, but due to a technical issue has been rescheduled for 11:00 p.m. on Friday, May 31, 2024.

The location where your files are stored (your home directory) when using a CAEN Engineering Base Desktop (EBD) computer will be migrated to a new storage system at 11:00 p.m. on Friday, May 31, 2024.  We recommend that you log out of your computer sometime before 10:45 p.m. on that date, possibly at the end of business that day. We also recommend that you reboot your computer sometime after 11:30 p.m.  Before you start using it the next day would work.

Any files that you may have changed in the previous 24-48 hours may not be immediately available after the migration due to the syncing process. However, it is anticipated that they will all sync by the end of the weekend. No individual files will be lost in the migration.

Only the latest versions of your files will be migrated. No previous versions will be copied.  Following the migration, if you need a previous version of a file from before May 31, 2024, you can submit a request to [email protected] asking that the ITS Storage Team assist you with recovering a file from the engin-storage MiStorage share.

This change will not impact files accessed via the student home directory storage space on CAEN Lab computers (engin-labs). Those files will be migrated at a later date.

If you need emergency support during that weekend, please contact [email protected] or the CAEN helpdesk at asking that they assist you with accessing your files in the engin-labs MiStorage share.
