AI Helpers are designed to make using AI easier and more structured than general tools like UM-GPT. Instead of starting with a blank prompt, AI Helpers provide guided forms that walk you through the information you need to include. This ensures you get more accurate, consistent, and useful results, without having to figure out prompt wording yourself.

How do I use the AI helpers?
Visit the website and sign in with your University of Michigan email by clicking the Sign In button at the top right corner. Once signed in, you can start using any AI helper by filling in the required fields for that tool.

Do I need to add profile information to use the helpers?
No, adding profile information is optional. However, including details in your profile can make AI responses more personalised.

What do I do if no helper addresses my need?
If there’s a task you do frequently that isn’t listed, fill out the AI Helper Suggestions form to propose a new helper. If approved, we may build it and add it to the site.

How can I tell what the AI helper is doing with the information I provide?
The prompt sidebar shows the exact information/prompt being used to generate content, so you can see how your input is being processed. None of the information you enter is saved unless you explicitly choose to save it. The prompt is sent through the UM-GPT Toolkit, meaning the data is covered under the University’s Data Protection Agreements.
