There is currently a degradation of service with CAEN Linux systems. This problem affects Linux on computers running the CAEN Lab Software Environment (CLSE) in labs on campus, as well as the Linux Login Service, and those using Linux on Windows (WSL). This includes the remote access hosts known by login-course.engin.umich.edu and oncampus-course.engin.umich.edu.
Services affected include:
- Logging into CAEN Linux computers, both in physical labs or remotely via the VNC client, may present an extended delay with a black screen, and could last for more than one minute.
- Remote logins using X11 will not work, so using the VNC client is recommended when available.
- Logging out of CAEN Linux computers may have a 30-second delay before the confirmation is shown.
- Linux on Windows (WSL) is working on CAEN lab computers, but users may experience an access problem with their home directory storage.
Note: Please be aware that you may not have access to your home directory, so any files saved during your session will only be saved locally, and may be deleted or inaccessible once you log out. - It is also possible that some applications might not function correctly.
If you encounter any application problems or if you experience login problems other than the ones mentioned above, send an email to [email protected] with a description of your experience.
CAEN staff are actively working to resolve these issues, but it is unknown when a solution will be available.
