- Start: Friday, June 7, 10:45 p.m.
- End: Friday, June 7, 11:30 p.m.
The location where faculty and staff files are stored (i.e. home directories) when using a CAEN Engineering Base Desktop (EBD) computer will be migrated back to the old storage system at 11:00 p.m. on Friday, June 7, 2024. EBD users should log out of their computer before 10:45 p.m. on June 7 to avoid issues saving work. Users can log back into their EBD computer anytime after 11:30 p.m., however it is recommended that computers should be rebooted first.
This change is taking place in response to a problem with a new storage system that has been identified since the previous migration. Although considerable effort has been put into diagnosing and mitigating the problem by ITS, CAEN, and the storage system vendor, a solution has not been forthcoming. ITS has recommended that the home directories be migrated back to the old system.
Any files that you may have changed in the previous 48 hours may not be immediately available after the migration due to the syncing process, however, it is anticipated that they will all be synced by the end of the weekend. No files will be lost during the migration.
Following the migration, if you need to restore a previous version of a file from June 1 through June 7, you can submit a request to the ITS Service Center, and request that the ITS Storage Team assist you with recovering a file from the “engin-storage” MiStorage share.
If you need emergency support during the weekend, send email directly to [email protected] and request that they assist you with accessing your files in the “engin-storage” MiStorage share.
