Kaltura Capture – Webcam & Screen Recording

Features

Kaltura Capture is a U-M-supported application recommended for Michigan Engineering faculty that provides webcam and screen recording capability for making videos. It is especially useful for instructors who need to make a recording on their computer outside of the classroom and easily publish it directly in a Canvas course site. The instructor will need access to a microphone for voice recording when using the software.

Access

To access Kaltura Capture, download the software directly through the My Media section in Canvas. Refer to the article: How do I create a lecture recording with Kaltura Capture and upload it to my Canvas course site? for instructions on downloading and getting started using Kaltura Capture with Canvas.

More Information

You can increase the production value of your Kaltura Capture videos through various recording and annotation options. First, you should decide what you want to show in the video. Recordings may include any combination of two display sources:

  • Computer Screen – For interactive recordings of software applications or presentations, such as Google or PowerPoint Slides.
  • Webcam – Express Capture is a browser-based option available in Canvas’s My Media section for recording yourself or objects via a computer-connected camera.

Nexus, Michigan Engineering’s online and professional education program, is well qualified to support faculty using Kaltura Capture. Refer to their Pre-Recording Lectures Using Kaltura video tutorial.
