Camtasia – Screen Recording for Faculty

Features

Camtasia is a software suite for creating and recording video tutorials and presentations. Users can make recordings via screencast or a direct recording plug-in to Microsoft PowerPoint. Other multimedia recordings may be recorded at the same time or added separately.

Camtasia offers several input options and features such as:

  • screen recording
  • video via an external camera
  • audio via internal or external microphones
  • templates and themes
  • presets, transitions, annotations and quizzing

An instructor can make recordings with Camtasia from anywhere using a Windows or Mac computer.

Note: If you do not plan to make extensive edits to your recordings, Michigan Engineering recommends Kaltura Capture as an option that integrates closely with Canvas course sites.

Access

CAEN has a site educational license for Camtasia, which is available to Michigan Engineering faculty. In addition, a limited number of licenses are also available for staff in Michigan Engineering who support instruction. These are individual computer licenses, so each may only be used once per computer.

To request a license, submit the Camtasia License Request Form. Someone from CAEN will reach out with additional details. If you are not eligible for the Michigan Engineering license program, contact TechSmith directly to request educational pricing for Camtasia.

More Information

The TechSmith Help website offers several support articles and tutorials about using Camtasia. Be sure to select the version you use (Windows or Mac) where prompted, as the functionality is somewhat different for each.
