It is important to understand what tools CAEN is able to provide before you begin planning your course. Based on the type of course, the scope of impact can be significant. CAEN has prepared software licensing information to be considered when you are beginning to teach any course. Please reach out to us at [email protected] with any questions.
What do you need to consider when picking software for your engineering degree program?
- CAEN has hundreds of Engineering software titles in our catalog. If you are interested in a title that is not listed, it may take several months for us to procure licenses for your use. University Procurement reviews can take a significant amount of time to complete, particularly if the Export Control Office or the Office of General Counsel needs to get involved. Please communicate the program needs with us as soon as possible.
- CAEN has site licenses for some of our titles. If you intend to use a title that we have a limited quantity of, it may take us some time to procure additional licenses. We can plan accordingly if we understand the expected course enrollment and scheduling of synchronous or asynchronous classes.
- CAEN encourages using the same software title across multiple courses in your program. The more titles we have to acquire or increase license counts for, the more delays we may encounter. Repeat use of titles will also ease technical support burdens as students will have less individual titles to install on their machines.
- CAEN recognizes the importance of protecting minors and has therefore identified titles with age restrictions regarding minors. If you are developing a program that involves minors, especially under the age of 13, please work with CAEN to identify which software titles are available to use.
